We love giving back to Maui by volunteering to either help restore ancient Hawaiian sites , plant native trees or pick up marine debris on the beach . Great news , you can make a difference too ! A number of organizations host weekly volunteer days making it an easy addition to our visitors' trip's itinerary . You have the opportunity to spend few hours giving back to the local community while enjoying access to "off the beaten trail " locations and also learn about the history and natural Eco system of the area. We all have the ultimate responsibility of protecting our resources for future generations.
Maui cultural Lands was established as a non-profit organization in February of 2002 and is one of only a few land trust organizations on Maui targeting Hawaiian cultural lands along the coast and inland areas. Spend few hours restoring historic Honokowai Valley. Here’s a great opportunity to dedicate your efforts to restoration and conservation on Maui. Attendees will restore an ancient Hawaiian village by removing invasive plants from this 800-year-old archaeological site.
A truly immersive Hawaiian cultural experience.

The Coral Reef Alliance is a non-profit, environmental NGO (non-governmental organization) that is on a mission to save the world's coral reefs. In West Maui, land that historically supported pineapple and sugarcane plantations is now out-of-use and degraded. During heavy rainfall, soil and contaminants from these degraded landscapes travel down old dirt roads, enter stream gulches, and inevitably reach the ocean. Stormwater runoff is considered a major source of water pollution and has led to a 25-50% decline in Maui’s coral cover in the last fifteen years. Planting native plants, especially in highly erosive roads and kickouts directly adjacent to streams, helps stabilize soil, absorb sediments and nutrients, and increase ground water infiltration.
